What Does a Landscape Lighting Installer Do?

A landscape lighting installer places fixtures, runs and protects low-voltage cable, connects transformers and controls, troubleshoots circuits, aims fixtures, and leaves the property clean and functional. 

  • Install pathway, accent, architectural, tree, and landscape fixtures. 
  • Run, bury, protect, and organize low-voltage cable. 
  • Install and connect transformers, controls, timers, and related components. 
  • Make durable outdoor connections and troubleshoot voltage or circuit problems. 
  • Perform light trenching and careful work around lawns, plant beds, walkways, driveways, and hardscapes. 
  • Aim and adjust fixtures to create the intended lighting effect. 
  • Load, organize, and maintain tools, materials, and company equipment. 
  • Assist with permanent or Christmas-lighting work when business needs and training support it.

Yes. Good landscape lighting requires more than placing fixtures in the ground; installers must understand cable routing, connections, transformers, voltage, fixture placement, aiming, property protection, and troubleshooting.

Landscape-lighting work requires regular walking, kneeling, digging, carrying tools and material, working outdoors, and sometimes using ladders for elevated fixtures or architectural lighting.

  • A valid driver’s license is required — no exception. 
  • Reliable personal transportation is required. Many job sites are not accessible by public transportation, and employees may need to report to different locations throughout Chicagoland. 
  • Professional, respectful behavior with customers, coworkers, vendors, and neighbors is required. 
  • Holiday Prestige maintains a drug-free workplace. Drug use, possession, or impairment during work is prohibited, and lawful screening may be part of the hiring process. 
  • Alcohol may not be consumed during work, while operating company vehicles or equipment, or while representing Holiday Prestige. Employees may not report to work impaired. 
  • Criminal background checks and driving-record checks will be conducted as appropriate for the role, with results evaluated in accordance with applicable law. 
  • Field roles generally require at least five days of availability each week. Six-day availability is preferred during peak periods. 
  • A sixth or seventh day may create optional overtime opportunities when workload and scheduling support it; overtime is not guaranteed.

No. Low-voltage experience is helpful, but Holiday Prestige will consider applicants with strong landscaping, irrigation, construction, electrical-helper, or other hands-on outdoor backgrounds. 

No. Landscape lighting focuses on permanent low-voltage outdoor fixtures, transformers, cable, aiming, and troubleshooting, although cross-training into other Holiday Prestige divisions may be available. 

Yes. A valid driver’s license is required with no exception. 

Yes. Light trenching and cable burial are normal parts of landscape-lighting installation, and the work must be completed carefully around existing landscaping and hardscapes. 

You need practical work stamina: the ability to walk, kneel, dig, lift approximately 50 pounds, carry equipment, and remain productive outdoors for a full shift.

Yes. Strong landscape-lighting technicians may be cross-trained into permanent lighting or other Holiday Prestige installation work when openings and business needs support it. 

Yes. Background and driving-record checks are conducted as appropriate for the role and evaluated in accordance with applicable law.
