What Does a Christmas Light Installer Do?

A Christmas Light Installer professionally installs, services, and removes custom holiday-lighting displays on residential and commercial properties while protecting the customer’s home and working safely at height.

  • Install professional C9 roofline lighting on gutters, eaves, peaks, dormers, garages, and architectural features.
  • Install wreaths, garland, greenery, tree lighting, and other approved Christmas-lighting components.
  • Run cords, timers, electrical connections, and job-specific power layouts.
  • Climb, move, and work from extension ladders and other approved access equipment.
  • Load and unload ladders, bins, tools, cords, and lighting materials.
  • Troubleshoot outages and perform service work during the season.
  • Keep trucks, tools, materials, and customer properties clean and organized.
  • Return after the season for professional takedowns and storage processing.

Who Usually Transitions Well Into Holiday Lighting?

People from roofing, gutters, window cleaning, siding, soffit/fascia, solar, painting, tree service, landscaping, exterior maintenance, and construction often transition well because they already understand ladders, tools, outdoor work, and working around customer properties.

Christmas-lighting experience is helpful, but it is not required for the right person. Holiday Prestige can teach the installation system; candidates must bring reliability, safety awareness, stamina, coachability, and the willingness to work.

COMFORTABLE ON LADDERS? APPLY NOW

Trade experience is valuable even if you have never installed Christmas lights professionally.

How Physical Is This Job?

This is a physically demanding outdoor job that requires sustained stamina rather than bodybuilding-level strength. Installers repeatedly climb ladders, carry equipment, move around properties, work with their hands, and maintain a productive pace throughout the day.

  • Comfortable working from extension ladders and around residential rooflines.
  • Able to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds safely.
  • Able to work outdoors in cold, wind, light precipitation, and changing Illinois conditions when it is safe to do so.
  • Able to be on your feet and physically active for long portions of the workday.
  • Able to use basic hand and power tools safely.

What Schedule Should Applicants Expect?

Holiday Prestige needs installers who can work at least five days per week during the season, with six-day availability strongly preferred when demand is high.

Additional day-six or day-seven overtime may be available when weather, workload, and scheduling allow. Extra work can create strong earning opportunities during a compressed season, but overtime is not guaranteed.

Why Join a Company That Is Still Growing?

A growing company can create advancement opportunities faster than a company that has already decided exactly how many crews, territories, and managers it will ever need.

Holiday Prestige was founded in 2018 and remains hands-on and owner-led. The company has acquired two businesses over the past several years, is expanding its local service capacity, and plans to pursue additional opportunities in Chicagoland and outside Illinois as the right opportunities become available.

That growth can create hard-to-reach opportunities for employees who prove they are dependable, capable, coachable, and ready for more responsibility — from crew leadership and specialized installation to sales leadership, traveling teams, operations, and future market roles.

Can a Christmas Installer Stay After the Season?

Yes. Strong seasonal installers may be considered for permanent lighting, landscape lighting, warehouse, service, traveling crews, or leadership roles when openings exist and the employee has proven dependable and capable.

What Holiday Prestige Expects From Every Team Member

Holiday Prestige hires for attitude, reliability, safety, professionalism, and the willingness to learn. Skill matters, but the best long-term employees are people others can count on.

  • A valid driver’s license is required — no exception.
  • Reliable personal transportation is required. Many job sites are not accessible by public transportation, and employees may need to report to different locations throughout Chicagoland.
  • Professional, respectful behavior with customers, coworkers, vendors, and neighbors is required.
  • Holiday Prestige maintains a drug-free workplace. Drug use, possession, or impairment during work is prohibited, and lawful screening may be part of the hiring process.
  • Alcohol may not be consumed during work, while operating company vehicles or equipment, or while representing Holiday Prestige. Employees may not report to work impaired.
  • Criminal background checks and driving-record checks will be conducted as appropriate for the role, with results evaluated in accordance with applicable law.
  • Field roles generally require at least five days of availability each week. Six-day availability is preferred during peak periods.
  • A sixth or seventh day may create optional overtime opportunities when workload and scheduling support it; overtime is not guaranteed.

What Kind of Boss and Culture Do Blue-Collar Workers Usually Want?

Most strong tradespeople want a boss who understands the work, communicates clearly, pays attention to what happens in the field, expects high standards, and treats good employees with respect.

Holiday Prestige founder Phillip Herrejon comes from a blue-collar, hands-on operating background and remains involved in the business day to day. His management philosophy is straightforward: stay humble, work hard, take care of the people who take care of the company, and build relationships that can last beyond a single season or project.

Holiday Prestige is not trying to create a culture where employees are anonymous numbers. The goal is to build strong crews and long-term working relationships, while still holding everyone — including leadership — accountable for doing the job correctly.
